Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Twitter Pays Tribute to Zahara

It’s been two days since Zahara passed away at the young age of 36, and tributes, prayers and condolences continue to pour in from fans and well-wishers alike on Twitter/X.

The family of the “Loliwe” hitmaker – real name Bulelwa Mkutukana – confirmed that she died on Monday, 11 December:

Zahara was surrounded by her loved ones when she passed away at a public hospital in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Two weeks before, she had been admitted to Netcare Olivedale Hospital for an undisclosed health issue (which, according to reports, was allegedly due to liver complications).

Fast-forward to the present (Wednesday, 13 December), and the pain over losing the singer-songwriter is still raw, if the online tributes that are filling up the timelines as we speak are anything to go by:

Many tweeps like @MOSAMUSIQ, @AgerFreddy and @MasembeArnoldA1 praised her music and how it touched their lives:

Others such as advocate Thuli Madonsela gave their condolences to Zahara’s family:

While Zahara may be gone in body, her spirit will live on through her family and friends, the love of her fans, and – also importantly – her music.

Rest in peace and power!
